Paraprofessional
Nixon Elementary School
September 2020 -June 2021

Following my college graduation in May 2020, I interviewed at Nixon Elementary School in Roxbury, NJ and landed a Title 1 Paraprofessional job in a Kindergarten class. Although I was not a lead teacher, I learned a lot from the lead Kindergarten teacher I worked with. She was helpful and provided me with ample advice and resources. During my time at Nixon, I became familiar with curriculums, running records, letter/sound assessments, supporting students one-on-one, and classroom management and creating resources for struggling students. I also learned to be flexible and willing to adapt to change when I was asked to help in another Kindergarten classroom for two weeks. 
I created positive relationships with the students, staff, and families of the school. I truly feel like this job prepared me for a lead teaching position. I was exposed to things that made me more comfortable when starting my career as a classroom teacher.
