Ms. Michelle Matarazzo
Primary 2
Governor Wolf Elementary
For Primary 2 I was lucky enough to return to Mrs. Young and a new group of students. Being in the classroom two days a week, I got to experience much more and grew such a deep connection with the students. During my time I created and incorporated lessons for mathematics, language arts, and science. I also created a cross-curricular lesson on Ocean animals. I planned and created five centers that my teacher was already using for WIN time. Students had an opportunity to read various level books on oceans and ocean animals, as well as navigate through epic books to read books I have selected for them. The students also did a writing about their favorite ocean animal, and painted an ocean animal. From this integrated lesson, I learned how to incorporate centers appropriately and reflect on things I would change. This was a great opportunity for students to explore a topic in many different ways to support their learning. My favorite lesson that I did with the students was a plant lesson. I read a book about plants, played a video about the parts of a plant, and the students got to make their own plant. Although it was fall and the plants didn't end up growing, it was a great experience with the students and they were excited and engaged during the lesson.
